The SplashGuard
Inventor: Josh Guyot

The SplashGuard

Josh Guyot came to Patty Lenz with this project because of her background with Outdoor and Specialty retailers. Being an industrial designer, he already had concept drawings and a prototype, but didn't know where to go next.

The SplashGuard came to life out of his daily use of the Nalgene® wide-mouth bottle. He wanted to be able to hike and drink at the same time - without liquid splashing on his face.

Patty approached Nalgene® to license the product - they did not as a policy accept outside submissions. Patty approached the top Outdoor Retailers - Recreational Equipment Inc.(REI) and Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS).

REI was not interested in licensing the product and neither was EMS. However, EMS felt that product had a lot of potential and wanted to carry it - IF it was manufactured.

This changed the situation considerably. With Josh's original intention to license and collect royalties - he was now facing the prospect of starting a company and manufacturing this product for retail. A 180-degree change in direction. Guyot Designs is currently producing their second mold to fulfill the volume of orders.

Today Josh, his company, and the America Invents' Sales and Marketing team are working together to fulfill orders from EMS, REI, Dick's Sporting Goods and several distributors serving nearly 5000 outdoor specialty retailers in the US and Canada.

In the first six months, we have sold nearly 90,000 units of the SplashGuard by Guyot Designs.
